Measurement of ∆G/G from high transverse momentum hadron pairs in COMPASS
نویسنده
چکیده
The new COMPASS ∆G/G result obtained from high transverse momentum hadron pairs in the Q > 1 (GeV/c) region is presented. Comparing to the previous analysis in this region the statistical error of ∆G/G is reduced by a factor 3 to 0.10. A weighted method of the ∆G/G measurement based on neural network approach is used. In addition, the formula for the ∆G/G extraction used in the analysis has been updated. The contributions coming from the leading order and QCD Compton processes are no longer neglected. Spin Physics with COMPASS
COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at CERN studying the spin structure of the nucleon via deep inelastic muon-nucleon scattering. Hadron spectroscopy and structure are investigated using hadronic beams. The main goal of the muon program is the determination of the gluon helicity contribution, ∆G/G, to the nucleon spin. Experimentally this quantity is accessible via the measurement of double s...
متن کاملMeasurement of the gluon polarization ∆G/G at COMPASS
One of the key objectives of the COMPASS experiment at CERN is the determination of the gluon contribution to the nucleon spin. The gluon polarization is measured via photon-gluon fusion in deep-inelastic scattering of 160 GeV/c polarized muons on a polarized LiD solid-state target. Photon-gluon fusion is tagged by the observation of charmed mesons or the production of hadron pairs with large t...
متن کامل∆G from Compass
Measurements of the gluon polarization ∆G G via the open charm channel and based on the helicity asymmetry of large transverse-momentum hadrons in the final state are presented. The data have been collected in the years 2002-2004 by the COMPASS experiment at CERN using a 160 GeV/c polarized muon beam scattered off a polarized 6LiD target. The new result for ∆G G from the charm channel is −0.57 ...
متن کاملTransverse Spin Effects at COMPASS
The investigation of transverse spin and transverse momentum effects in deep inelastic scattering is one of the key physics programs of the COMPASS collaboration. In the years 2002-2004 COMPASS took data scattering 160 GeV muons on a transversely polarized LiD target. In 2007, a transversely polarized NH3 target was used. Three different channels to access the transversity distribution function...
متن کاملMeasurement of Transverse Spin Effects at COMPASS
By measuring transverse single spin asymmetries one has access to the transversity distribution function ∆T q(x) and the transverse momentum dependent Sivers function q T 0 (x,~kT ). New measurements from identified hadrons and hadron pairs, produced in deep inelastic scattering of a transversely polarized LiD target are presented. The data were taken in 2003 and 2004 by the COMPASS collaborati...
